The beginning of the formation of the collection of the “Biblioteca de Obras Raras da EBA” started with the arrival of the French Artistic Mission in 1816 that enabled the project of artistic education in Brazil. Relevant artists who participated in the mission worked at the “Escola” and contributed to the formation of the collection. In this aspect, stand out: Augusto Taunay, Jean Batiste Debret, Simon Pradier, and Grandjean de Montigny.

The EBAOR collection includes valuable works in the area of art, philosophy, history, literature, anatomy, and religion, such as in-folios, books, exhibition catalogs, periodicals, flyers, thesis, dictionaries, and encyclopedias. They are works that extend chronologically from the 16th century to the middle of the 20th century.

EBAOR acting as a support for the production of knowledge has adopted a policy of preservation of the historical-cultural collection. Through this documentation, assists in researches that bring benefits to the future, rescuing the history of arts education in Brazil, serving as a source of knowledge information, enabling the generation and creation of new information.
