The School of Fine Arts began its history by Decree-Law of D. João VI in August 1816. It was incorporated into the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (EBA / UFRJ) and transferred to the Fundão Campus in 1974, where it is today.
Our mission is the artistic, technical, and scientific formation of students, maintaining the intersection between teaching activities and the many professional sectors related to the field of art, design, and culture. Its current structure balances artistic and cultural legacies with innovative approaches and techniques of contemporary art. Within this interdisciplinarity, it provides various forms of learning in the pursuit of the highest artsy and academic standards.
